Andy Griffith

Andy Griffith got his start in show business as a monologist.  His comedy monologues were popular on radio and records in the early 1950s.

In 1955 Griffith starred in a live teleplay called No Time for Sergeants.  The show was such a hit that it was made into a Broadway play.   Griffith starred in the play and then recreated his role in a 1958 movie adaptation.

But he made his film debut in 1957 in A Face in the Crowd, a story about a simple country boy who becomes one of the most powerful men in America.
The Andy Griffith Show aired on television from 1960 to 1968.  Numerous polls have ranked Mister McBeevee as the best episode of TV ever produced.
