The Travel Companion (Novel)
I’m looking for an agent or publisher to work with me on a humorous mystery novel. It’s called The Travel Companion and is complete at 61,859 words.
THUMBNAIL SYNOPSIS
Rick Richards works as a travel companion. Normally he provides physical assistance to old people on trips around Texas, but then he meets the beautiful and wealthy Sue Cutler. She hires him to impersonate her husband, La Vicomte de Petit. The viscount has left her but she doesn’t want her family to know when she attends her father’s funeral.
So Rick takes the job and adopts ze phonee French accent for his trip to the small town of Lizarus. From the gossiping locals he learns that Sue’s father was murdered, probably for his fortune in gemstones. Rick joins the hunt for the killer and the stones.
Lizarus is a town of oddballs, and as a French viscount Rick should fit right in. He’s viewed with suspicion though and is chased by feral children, shot at by an old prospector and brutalized by a septic-diving chimpanzee. His misadventures eventually lead to an epiphany and a drawing room conclusion that answers all questions.
